About Us

Star Personnel Limited is a 100% New Zealand owned family business.  

Joanne, with a background in Advertising Sales, entered the Recruitment industry in 1999 and instantly found her niche. Initially working for a boutique, medium sized Agency,  Joanne left after it was bought out by a multi-national company. She decided to step out alongside another Recruiting professional in January 2002 and start her own business and recreate the professional, stimulating environment she had enjoyed working in. Originally running the business from home,  Joanne grew the business to a point where it was time to expand the company thereby initiating a move to corporate offices in Manukau in 2004.  Hayden joined the firm in 2004 with a strong background in International Freight Forwarding and Logistics and Sales.

The business has continued to grow steadily throughout the years to the fun and vibrant team that we are today! It is our intention to continue growing the business in order to provide an outstanding Recruitment Solution service to Candidates and Clients alike by building strong relationships and forging a foundation of trust between the two parties.

Hayden Travers - General Manager / Recruitment Consultant


Hayden has over 12 years’ experience in International Freight Forwarding in Operations and Account Executive roles. He has a strong customer service focus and a successful sales background. Hayden moved to Star Personnel in 2004, adapting his knowledge and skills to tackle the Recruitment industry. He has what can only be described as a "unique sense of humour", he is an ex rugby player who has refocused his energies into the Recruitment game, where the injuries are limited to paper cuts.

Joanne Travers - Director / Senior Recruitment Consultant


Joanne has over 20 years' experince in Recruiting for a range of Clients, building strong relationshops and delivering on what is needed. Her background in Secretarial, PA and Sales positions including advertising helps her have a strong understanding of candidates and clients' needs across a wide range of areas, Like a dog with a bone, Joanne will work tooth and nail to provide you with outstanding "STAR" service. 

Her passion and background in the Performing Arts and has awarded her the prestigious office "Academy Award" for several of her STAR performances.

Kimberley Baker - International Freight Forwarding Recruitment Team Leader


Kimberley previously worked in the frieght forwarding industry and then moved on to working for an appliance importer for nearly 6 years, handling commercial sales and customer service. She has been in the recruitment industry for 6 years, successfully recruiting across all roles in freight forwarding, transport, shipping and logistics.

Outside of work she likes to cook, has a keen interest in interior design and you will find her in the gym most days.

Gemma Hough - Recruitment Consultant 


Prior to joining Star Personnel, Gemma spent 8 years working for one of New Zealand's largest retailers, with a range of roles including Administration, Credit Control, Logistics and PA. Gemma is now a Consultant for our Freight Forwarding division where she develops fantastic relationships with both her clients and candidates, matching the two for a perfect fit.

Outside of work, Gemma spends most of her time running after her energetic toddler and spending time with family and friends. She's also an incredible party planner for friends and family events!

Monique Oliver - Recruitment Team Leader


Monique joined the Star team in 2018 with a background in Customer Service and Retail. She began as our Team Administrator and found a passion and interest for Recruitment in the process. She took over our busy Blue Collar desk at the end of 2019, successfully recruiting for permanent and temporary roles from entry level to management.

Outside of work she loves playing Netball, catching up on the latest reality tv shows and going on road trips throughout New Zealand.

Molly Dewell - Recruitment Consultant


Molly is orginally from the UK and has a background in Administration, Customer Service and Recruitment for over 8 years which assists her in doing what she loves - finding candidate's a perfect role to not only fit their lifestyle and family situation, but to support them in thier career goals and progression.

Outside of work Molly loves spending time with her friends and family, watching movies and travelling with her two young daughters.

Gemma Bardsley - Recruitment Consultant


Gemma is on her second stint with Star Personnel, initially coming onboard in 2015 as the Team Administrator. She went off and worked in local government, recruiting a huge variety of roles, including Photographers, Marketing Professionals, Customer Services and even Zoo Keepers and Vets!

Gemma loves matching candidates and clients together like puzzle pieces and is much better at it then actual puzzles that often take her 6 months to finish!
